Qingdao Durable Technology R&D Center – successfully develop new marine protection technology

A new marine engineering protection technology - double aluminum composite sacrificial anode technology is successfully developed , and granted national patent.

This technology is related to improved technology of composite sacrificial anodes, applying to harbor, wharf, offshore platforms and other large steel structures. Fully utilizes the advantages of the aluminum anode to rapidly polarize the steel and generate the deposited surface, making the current density decrease sharply. After the outer layer depletion, the inner layer of aluminum anode can provide protection for steel structure in a smaller current, making full use of inner anode current’s high efficiency, long life. It has a good protective effect, long service life and saves anode materials.

The sacrificial anode is a composite with two or more different sacrificial anode material. Composite sacrificial anode is a new technology developed recently. Compared with traditional sacrificial anode material, it shows obvious advantage in cathodic protection for large steel structure in marine environment.

At present, the compound sacrificial anodes used in the marine environment is magnesium alloy. With large drive potential, it can provide greater current to polarize the steel structure. After the dissolution of the outer layer of magnesium anode, aluminum anode with lower driving potential but high current efficiency of start to work, adjusting the current density to a lower level and  maintaining long-term stable polarization of the steel. Eventually it reach the target of corrosion protection.
